Take Home Folders
Take Home Folders are THE LINK between school and home. Please help us remember to bring this folder to school EVERY DAY. In your child's folder, the "Left At Home" side is for anything that does not need to be returned to school. Items in this side might include notes, completed papers, etc. The "Bring Right Back" side is for anything that needs to be returned to school. You will find forms, picture orders, etc. Homework will be placed in the plastic sleeve in the middle of the folder each week. Homework will consist of Reading Comprehension Practice, Math Practice, Spelling Words, and Sight Words.
Weekly Parent Note
Parent communication is very important to us! We definitely want you to know what is going on in our classroom and at Lynn Wood.
Sight Words
Sight words are essential as we are learning to read fluently. These are words that we need to be reading without having to take the time to sound them out. They are not words that we need to be able to spell. We will be focusing on two each day in class, but we will need help from home to ensure that we have them memorized. Thank you for practicing these words with us. Mrs. Edmonson will be checking us throughout the week to see that we have successfully memorized these words.
Spelling Words
Although Mrs. Edmonson is a fan of Spell-Check & Auto-Correct, it is still necessary that we know how to spell words. Here is where you can find our differentiated Spelling Lists. If you are not sure which list belongs to your child, please contact Mrs. Edmonson. We will be taking Spelling Tests every Friday. Spelling will begin later in the fall.
Weekly Comprehension Practice
Each week, we will have one short story to practice at home with questions to go over together. We will need help reading the story and answering the questions, but as we move along through the year, we will become better readers because of your help. Please remind us to turn in our story by Friday to Mrs. Edmonson.
Weekly Math Practice
We do a lot of Reading in First Grade, but Math is important too! Each week, we will have some Math to practice that goes with what we are learning in the classroom. Once again, we need your help for us to be successful Mathematicians. Math Practice should be returned by Friday.
Book-It
From October 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015 we are challenged to read 25 books each month AT HOME. These books can be books from school, from the library, from home - from anywhere! Just write the books down on the form, sign it, and send it back to school. Mrs. Edmonson will give those of us that make our goal each month a certificate for a FREE pizza from Pizza Hut! If we make our goal each month (6 months in all), there will be a special surprise at the end! It's so TOP SECRET that even Mrs. Edmonson doesn't know what it is. If we lose the form, click below for a blank one. (Just be sure to write what month it is, please.) Book-It Begins October 1st.
